Werewolf mythology in Fang:

Fang, directed by Adam R. Steigert, offers a unique take on werewolf mythology within the horror genre. The film intentionally moves away from explicitly displaying the werewolf for much of its runtime, allowing the audience to conjure their own interpretations of the creature through their imaginations.

This approach to werewolf mythology, according to Steigert, was born out of the challenge of creating an artistic, noir, stylized horror film with a small budget. Rather than focusing on elaborate special effects, Steigert aimed to foster a sense of psychological suspense, allowing the audience to create the monstrous image in their own minds until the creature's reveal.

This method challenges the traditional cinematic depiction of werewolves, where their appearance and transformations are often central to the horror experience. Instead, Fang seems to embrace a more psychological approach, where the unknown elements and the audience's own fears become a crucial part of the horror equation. By the time the werewolf is fully revealed, the audience has, ideally, become deeply invested in the narrative and the characters, making the reveal a satisfying, if brief, moment of connection and confirmation rather than a reliance on special effects.

This film's particular mythology seems to prioritize a more subtle and suggestive approach to the monstrous, leaving room for a personalized and more impactful horror experience for each individual viewer.
